Office Storage: Another Reason I Heart Spray Paint

Several of you have seen my reinvented cubby. It's proof that a can (or two) of spray paint can hide a multitude of sins.

Behold, the tired and damaged drawer unit, purchased from Ross circa 2003 for about $20.

BEFORE

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I bought this. It ended up coming to work with me after a few years and living in my office-office (as opposed to my home office), where all of my misfit furniture and doo-dads ended up living for awhile. It got some water damage on top from a plant. All in all, it was in pretty bad shape when it finally came back to my home.

BEFORE

I removed the faux bamboo veneer on the top and sides, muscled off the drawer pulls and lightly sanded that bad boy from top to bottom.

I sprayed the entire unit in a super glossy white. I applied a yellow plaid fabric to the tops and sides with a little spray adhesive, and replaced the pulls with darling green and brass pulls from Cost Plus World Market.

And here she is now, folks...my cute little cubby! It just goes to show that ugly furniture can really become a thing of beauty with a little DIY love and some elbow grease.

  1. Wow! This is so inspiring! You certainly turned that around and it turned out adorable! Love the fabric on the sides and top. And those new pulls complete the look! Good job!

    1. Thanks Annie!! I had a lot of fun working on this project because it was so easy and the transformation was still super dramatic. A two-fer! :)
