Knick Knack Series: Metal Baskets

Welcome back to the Knick Knack series! Today, I'm showcasing my new and much improved metal baskets. It is truly amazing what paint can do! It's also slightly dangerous, because my current possessions now shiver in fear when I walk through the hallowed halls of my home, looking for my next paintable prey....I mean project! Project is what I meant to say, and my home loves me very much. It told me so. It says to me all of the time, "Alison, thank you so much for taking off our glasses, and shaking out our suspiciously voluminous hair." Seriously. Um...so...yeah...

All three baskets started out looking like this:

I sprayed one basket aqua, and the remaining two baskets white. I used Valspar brand paint on the aqua basket, and found it to be far superior to the white Krylon paint I used on the other baskets. That explains why the Valspar was twice the price, but required half the number of coats. Lesson learned? Buy the Valspar. And...{confession time}...I just LOVE Lowe's so I'll take any excuse for a trip to Lowe's. It's getting dangerously close to my love for Costco....{happy sigh}....Costco. :)

This is after just one coat of Valspar...

...and now after two coats.

The final tally was three coats of paint using Valspar.

I honestly lost count of the number of coats of paint the white Krylon paint required....eight maybe? Aside from the additional effort needed for the white baskets, I'm happy with how both colors turned out.

So, who's planning to paint something this week? I can't wait to hear all about it!

Cheers!

  1. Looks great! I was just eyeing up a metal basket in that color at Homegoods earlier today. Love it!
